'The Weight of Emptiness' is a profound reflection on trauma, physical absence, and the transformation of the body. Constructed from stacked, laser-cut acrylic slices, the sculpture forms a hollow impression of the artist’s legs following the accident that left him paralysed.
Each layer was created from photographs taken while suspended from gym equipment—a posture that initially appears graceful and almost balletic. Yet that apparent poise conceals the reality of paralysis, where the body arches not in dance, but in spasm.
The central void is the heart of the piece, capturing the paradox of living with spinal injury: the heavy presence of the physical body alongside the total absence of sensation. Through transparent, weight-bearing layers of acrylic and light, the sculpture reconstructs the body not as broken, but as transformed—turning a map of loss into a testament to human endurance.
